Members of the City of Hereford Boxing Academy took part in the Cardiff Half Marathon over the weekend, to help raise money for a local woman with incurable cancer to make memories with her daughter and family.
Luke Powell, James Moran and Liam O’hare took part to raise money for Luke’s sister Rosie. Alongside other friends and family, they completed the half marathon in great time.
The link to donate is still live, funds raised are being used to create long lasting memories for Rosie, her daughter Harriett and their family.
A few words from Luke:
“Some of you may have heard from my sister herself or elsewhere that she has sadly been diagnosed with liver and lung cancer and it is sadly incurable.
“Although I would give the world and more to do so, there is sadly nothing that I or anyone can do. She is the best big sister I could ever ask for, and is the best Mum to little Harriet.
“One of the things that I can do however is to raise as much money for her as possible to give her and us a family, memories to treasure.
“Here is the current situation explained by my sister a little better than how I can put it.”
A few words from Rosie:
“My name Rosie I’m 34 and I’ve recently been diagnosed with cancer (the second time) in my liver & lungs. Sadly this time it isnt curable.
“A bit about me. I have the most beautiful, caring little 5 year old called Harriet who I’ve been a single parent to for the last 4 years.
“Our bond is so magical it’s the only thing I’ve ever wished for in life to become a mum. She truly is my best friend and I cannot image the pain she will go through after I’ve gone.
“I used to work for Macmillan Renton Unit, St. Michael’s Hospice at Home Team, and Macmillan as a cancer support worker helping people in positions similar to myself so it’s crazy to think the tables have now turned.
“My main priority in my precious time is to have as much time and memories with her as I can.
“When I was 26 I had surgery to remove ovarian cancer in my right ovary and tube, it was caught early so was a lucky one and went on to have Harriet.
“8 years later and it’s returned. I’ve recently had a biospy and I’m now awaiting the tests to see what stage, how fast it is spreading and if and what treatment is available to prolong life and the dreaded question of how long do you think I’ve got left?
“My family, friends, and people around me are devastated so if you see them give them a extra cuddle for me.
“I can’t image how it feels to loose a daugther, friend, sister, niece etc.
“My daugther is unaware of losing her Mummy one day but she is aware her Mummy is a bit poorly so please if you see us please be strong and not to talk or cry infront of her.

“When Harriet is older she can see how happy and wonderful life was and the precious pictures she can treasure.
“For now keep smiling, please don’t feel sad for me, I’m surrounded around so much love and support, please treasure your loved ones, take pictures and appreciate life as like me you certainly do not know what is around the corner waiting for you.”
