After much work, Hereford Business Improvement District (Hereford BID) are pleased to announce the completion of the Improving Bath Street project, following the planting of 30 crab apple trees.
This once run-down area, between Bastion Mews and the Police Station, has been rejuvenated by Hereford BID and itspartners, with the city wall now visible and overgrown foliage replaced by a variety of crab apple trees, provided by Frank P Matthews Tree Shop. Mike Truelove, Chief Executive at Hereford BID said, “we are thrilled with the outcome of this project and it was a pleasure to work alongside our local partners. The crab apple varieties chosen offer spectacular colours of fruit in the autumn and stunning blooms in spring, brightening up the area and creating a place for visitors and residents to enjoy.”
The planting of the apple trees was attended by a small group representing the organisations who helped with this project, including the Hereford Clean Up Group and Hereford in Bloom. Hereford BID were honoured to have the first tree installed by Madam Mayor, the Right Worshipful Cllr Kath Hey. Mike added, “as such a strong advocate for the city, we were so pleased to have the Mayor of Hereford attend the planting and share in the success of this project.”
Forming part of the local movement, Reclaim the Apple(#reclaimtheapple), this tree planting celebrates Hereford’s long-standing connection to the apple, and supports Visit Herefordshire’s county-wide tourism campaign, ‘Apples for Autumn’.

Hereford BID is a not-for-profit, limited company, funded by 500 business in the city centre. Driven by its business plan, Hereford BID follows three core strands for supporting and improving Hereford, based on the feedback from BID businesses. The company is run by up to 15 board directors, who are also levy-paying members.
