Ellis Barrett from Hereford to participate in the London Marathon in aid of Leonard Cheshire UK
We caught up with Ellis who gave us some insight into the decision to take part.
Ellis said:
“To run a marathon has been a personal goal of mine for quite some time, after some research and conversations with the amazing people over at Leonard Cheshire UK I have decided to run in aid of them.
“Leonard Cheshire is a charity that support disabled people to live, learn and work as independently as they chose whatever the ability. Breaking down barriers that deny those of their basic rights. The company has been successful in such for more than 70 years.”
Ellis continued, “As I’m sure many of you are all aware, the rising cost of living has been troubling for many over these past few months/years. Many disabled people across the U.K have been heavily impacted by the rate of inflation. I was very emotionally moved after reading a lot of the reports from Leonard Chesire’s website, one really stood out to me as they claim that more than 28% of disabled people had not been able to afford to keep their homes warm over the winter period”.
“I am aiming to Raise £1,000 for Leonard Cheshire UK to help aid disabled people across the U.K who are struggling financially but also to raise awareness for disabled people and help bring disabled people off the breadline in the United Kingdom”.
Ellis has so far reached £300 of that goal, with the London Marathon set to take place on Sunday 2nd October.
“Any donations will be greatly appreciated, I am very much looking forward to working alongside Leonard Cheshire this year” added Ellis.
