As many of you who know him will know, Councillor Jim Kenyon is always up for a challenge!

This time, the challenge was to help raise money for the ongoing campaign to help save Hereford’s Athletics Track at Hereford Racecourse.

On Saturday, Jim hosted a Curry and Quiz night at The Victory in Hereford. The night raised an incredible £1,500 – with £300 pledged for Jim to get his golden (grey 😉) locks cut!

Mark Anthony Billingham had the honour of cutting Jim’s hair, before Nikki Tyler made sure it was tidied up so that Jim could venture out in public!

“Since the 1980’s The Herefordshire Athletics Association has played a key part in the development of athletes from juniors through to seniors in Herefordshire. The Herefordshire Athletics Association is the governing body of athletics in Herefordshire, Our Mission is to promote and support all disciplines of athletics across the county focusing on the growth of athletes, coaches, officials and it’s member clubs but also to create an environment for everyone to enjoy athletics in the county.

“Since the 80’s the county has had a number of talented athletes who come through from juniors to seniors who have gone on to represent England, Wales and Great Britain at the Commonwealths, World Championships and even the Olympics.

“The last major investment in the Hereford Athletics Track was back in 2006 and now the track is at risk of not being up to England Athletics competition requirements and as a result will not be able host meetings in future years.

“We’ve had the facility assessed and experts are recommending that the track is in need of a full relaying with an estimated figure of £350,000 that will need to be raised for us to provide a safer experience for our athletes development.

“The only track of this type in Herefordshire, located at Hereford Leisure Centre is a important part of the community, it’s helped build so many friendships and helped people reach their goals, along with helping with many people’s mental health and wellbeing, athletics is a sport for everyone – we want to inspire the next generation.”
