Earlier this year we featured the story on Laura Hughes whose son George tragically passed aged five.

NEWS | Hereford woman to walk 150 miles to raise money in tribute to her late son who tragically died aged five years old | Herefordshireā€™s Independent Source of News & Information (yourherefordshire.co.uk)

The walk for George will take place at Stretton Sugwas Academy on Friday 22nd July 2022. Laura told Your Herefordshire.

“On 22nd July 2022 myself, my three sister in-laws and best friend are walking 150 miles from Stretton Sugwas Academy school in Hereford (where the boys attend) to Woolacombe Bay (where each year since the boys were born, we have spent treasured family holidays). We will be walking 150 miles in total, Friday ā€“ Friday, finishing on 5th August.”

Laura continued: “The purpose of the walk is to show Georgeā€™s two brothers that life, love and hope still exist amongst the pain and loss but also to help us raise as much money possible for ā€˜Georgeā€™s Fundā€™ which is now our ongoing focus.”

“Georgeā€™s Fund is set up via The Herefordshire Community Foundation (HCF). HCF is a local independent charity that provides a grant making and fund management service to their donors (like us with George’s Fund). They give grants to individuals, families, voluntary and community groups (and other charitable causes) and support projects that make a real difference to the quality of life for the people of Herefordshire.George’s Fund is managed by HCF and we will use all money to promote the interests of primary aged children in Herefordshire.”

“This means we can give one-off grants to poorly children but also to any projects that improve education, mental health, outdoor activities etc for primary age children. The great thing about HCF is they know exactly where there is need in the county so they can connect us with the causes that matter. Applications also go through a board of trustees, so we know the money is spent in the best way.Once we have finalised our route and accommodation, the routes etc will be uploaded on our JustGiving page.”

“We are hoping for friends, family, the childrenā€™s community nurses and anyone else who wishes to will join us for parts along the way. As a mum, one of your jobs is to tell your children that ā€œeverything is going to be okā€. I couldnā€™t do that for George so if we as a family can make a small difference to another childā€™s life then that will give us huge comfort”
