From Andy Compton:
A Herefordshire community has shown an abundance of ‘people power’ to clean the streets in time for visitors over Easter.
And a big ‘thank you’ has gone out to the residents of Kington for the low litter count collected during the community clean-up.
Over 30 volunteers spent part of their Sunday morning with brooms, brushes and litter picking equipment cleaning up the town ready for the holidays and to welcome visitors to the Walking Festival at the end of the month.
About 20 bags of waste was collected during the clean-up, organised by the town’s Chamber of Trade.
Kington Chamber of Trade chairman Emma Hancocks said:
“Thank you yet again for those people who volunteered for a couple of hours on Sunday morning to help with the litter pick.
“We were extremely happy to see the lack of litter so thank you to everyone for keeping our streets clean.
“The majority of rubbish was weeds and debris.
“We will be organising another litter pick in a few months so hopefully that will be another successful collection.”
Last year the chamber of trade organised two successful litter picks, one after lockdown had ended and ahead of the town’s annual walking festival in September.
