Pass GO, collect tickets for Wembley and watch non-league Hereford F.C. play in the FA Cup Final. And if that sounds implausible – how about collecting money for your HEIFER winning second prize in a beauty competition?

It’s all in the game.

The brand new official MONOPOLY: Hereford Edition game from Winning Moves UK and global play and entertainment company Hasbro.

The board’s ‘Big Reveal’ is in The Ballroom at the Green Dragon Hotel, Hereford, THIS Thursday (6th October 2022) – when a GIGANTIC life-size replica of the game will be rolled out, revealing:

THE CITY’S NEW ‘MAYFAIR’: Hereford Cathedral will be unveiled as the ‘Mayfair of Hereford’. The makers of this game say the Cathedral faced “stiff opposition” for the top ranked slot.

FREE FOOD: Near to Free Parking will be Hereford Foodbank, one of several Hereford charities to feature in the game.

END OF LINE FOR STATION SET: The four train stations from the classic London MONOPOLY original become a ‘travel’ set. That’s because, unlike in the capital, there are not a multitude of main line stations to choose from in Hereford.

30+ LANDMARKS ‘PASS GO’:  Other Hereford landmarks featuring include: The Green Dragon Hotel, The Bull Statue,  the Waterworks Museum, Edgar Street Stadium, the Racecourse, the Cattle Market and the Courtyard Theatre.

In this unique edition of the world’s most famous board game ALL the famous multi-coloured MONOPOLY property squares like Mayfair and Park Lane from the classic MONOPOLY London original are represented by Hereford landmarks and organisations. The Community Chest and Chance cards and money are Hereford themed too.

Hereford landed the honour of its very own customised MONOPOLY game after seeing off 24 other places across the west of the Midlands to win the accolade of its own official MONOPOLY board. The announcement was made in February. At the time of the announcement the public was invited to suggest landmarks to feature in the game.

“We have been wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this unique game together,” says Ella Gibbs, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, who are the makers of the board under official licensing from Hasbro. “Thank you to everyone who sent in suggestions.  It was a tight race in particular for the Mayfair spot, which sparked a lot of debate. Any one of three or four could have filled it. In the end the Cathedral has got to land on it and a huge congratulations to them for emerging as the new ‘Mayfair of Hereford’!”.

Running the Cathedral closest in the Mayfair was The Green Dragon Hotel. It gets to land on Park Lane – the second ranked space. And with the Cathedral is in the most expensive set. The Green Dragon Hotel has also landed a double as it is where the official launch of the game is taking place, with The Mayor of Hereford Cllr. Mark Dykes attending.

Several charities get to feature in the game as well. They include The Royal National College for the Blind, Hereford Foodbank and the Little Princess Trust, each of which are showcased on their very own spaces.

The cards and money are themed too.

One card sends players ‘Back 3 Spaces’ for getting stuck in traffic on Belmont Road. Whilst the money includes a motif of a bull in recognition of The Hereford being so world renowned, with currently around 5M purebred cattle across more than 50 countries of the world. “This game without a bull being represented would be like MONOPOLY without the dice!” adds Ms Gibbs.

The Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Mark Dykes, said:

“Being a part of such an iconic and world famous board game is truly an honour and is sure to be a hit with Herefordians of all ages. This Monopoly game will showcase some of our own iconic landmarks, history and charities.  I suspect that some of the chosen landmarks and the dreaded penalty squares you can land on will cause much debate!”

Over the last 25 years Winning Moves UK and Hasbro have produced official versions of MONOPOLY in cities all over the world from Dubai to Sydney .. and now Hereford. The MONOPOLY: Hereford Edition game hits the shops at 10am on Thursday (6th October 2022) and will be available at Waterstones, WHSmith and extensively online, including on Amazon and Booghe.
