Former Mayor of Hereford,  Sharon Michael, has thanked residents of Hereford for their support over the past twelve months.

“Dear residents of Hereford.
On the 21st May I handed over to the new Mayor Cllr Sue Boulter. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have made this such a memorable and wonderful, year as The Mayor of The City of Hereford. I have met some truly amazing people and volunteer groups who work tirelessly in their communities helping others. The people who work as volunteers are truly Hero’s, raising money and giving their time to make life better for others.

It has been my pleasure to represent our city at civic events, being able to sing the praises of Hereford at every opportunity.

This year we have opened the new civic museum and make the silver more accessible as well as the City Charters. It is proving to be a huge success, and at no cost it is, proving popular with tourists and locals alike.

Being Mayor helps to raise awareness and in my Mayoral year this is what I set out to do with my 2 charities, the Herefordshire Branch of National Autistic Society and the Blood Bikers. I have raised some funds but more importantly many now know of the work that these two volunteer groups do and the excellent free service they provide.

On a personal note, although my Mayoral year has come to an end I will carry a new-found pride in my city. We truly have a wealth of history that is fascinating and being able to tell others and spread the word through visits to the Mayor’s parlour has been a pleasure and enjoyed by many groups.
From Rainbow groups aged 5 to senior citizen groups all have left saying how they enjoyed getting to know local history and to see its artefacts We are a remarkable city with a wealth of history, some truly amazing community groups and a lot to be proud of and helping to raise Herefords profile has been my honour.

It has been important to promote our historic traditional customs, as well as promoting Hereford as a place to come and visit and Hereford city council will continue to do this.
It has been my honour to be mayor in 2017 & 2018 and I would like to thank the people of Hereford City for their support this past year. I would also like to thank my employer Royal Mail for allowing me time to attend functions as Mayor.
It has been an amazing year.

Kind regards

Sharon Michael
