The Courtyard is delighted to be launching Actors Academy, a new programme that includes two brand-new classes for young people aged 14 – 19.
Actors Academy: Advanced Performance (ages 15 – 19) is for young people looking for a springboard into the acting industry with the aim of preparing those who are exploring a career as a professional performer.
Weekly sessions will focus on advanced acting skills, exploring how different practitioner’s techniques can be applied to script work and devising, monologue selection and delivery, acting for film and TV, and audition techniques.
There will be workshop opportunities with professional individuals and companies such as Fourth Monkey, Open Sky and Matt Canny as well as a host of performance opportunities, throughout the year. This will include a showcase for specially invited industry professionals, and studio productions.
Sessions will be held on Saturdays, 11am – 12.30pm at The Courtyard. Participants will be required to audition if they wish to join the Advanced Performance classes.
Actors Academy: Writing For Performance (ages 14 – 19) are weekly sessions offering the chance to explore creative writing and learn different techniques for writing for performance. From spoken word poetry and storytelling to monologues and scripts, participants will work towards writing their own piece of original and creative theatre.
There will be opportunities to learn from industry professionals with workshops from guest practitioners as well as the opportunity to collaborate with actors from other Courtyard performance groups.
Sessions will be held on Mondays, 4.30pm – 6pm.
“We are really excited to be launching this new set of classes which are open to both our current youth theatre members and non-members.” says Courtyard Education & Participation Manager (maternity cover) Carrie Potter. “These classes offer dedicated space for young people to explore the world of acting in different fields and get experience with professional performers and practitioners to prepare them for the industry.”
