‘The organisation was set up almost 7 years ago initially as a community group to recycle items that couldn’t otherwise be recycled properly in Herefordshire – crisp packets, cheese wrappers and plastic milk bottle tops to name a few.

‘The group started out in a tiny room at Hereford Railway Station and to this day our volunteers maintain the beautiful flowerbeds there.

‘The group changed focus during the pandemic and also became a reuse group, initially working with the Women’s Refuges in the county providing preloved furniture, kitchen utensils, crockery and soft furnishings.

‘In 2019 it became a Community Interest Company.

‘Previously trading as the Herefordshire Community Reuse and Recycling Group we rebranded and relaunched in July 2024 to mark our new era after Andrew Wood’s retirement and our move into our new home at Rotherwas.

‘We are a thriving group of volunteers, whose main aim is to protect the environment by encouraging and facilitating recycling and reuse in order to have a significant impact on the amount of goods going into landfill and also supporting those in need.

‘Current HRRO Directors are Liz Davies and Lara Bryant who lead the Management Team of Fiona Bailey, Claire Morris, Hannah Johnson, Jackie Morris, Kyle Townsend and Liz Anstey.

‘We support a number of agencies including social services and women’s refuges, social housing groups and other charities by passing on usable furniture and household goods either free or at nominal prices (depending on whether there is council or government funding available).

‘We also support schools, nurseries and other agencies by providing clothing, toys, bicycles and other items for children in the care system.

‘We have helped homeless charities, sent sleeping bags to Ukraine and supported numerous other charitable enterprises in Herefordshire.

‘We are not however a fund-raising organisation and do not support a specific charity.

‘We offer all donated goods that we cannot use directly for sale to the public at low cost, the proceeds of these sales go towards the groups running costs which include rent, insurances, utilities, staffing, vehicle costs and fuel, purchase of equipment, accountancy costs and Health & Safety.

‘We plan to convert to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation during 2024.’
