Steam train enthusiasts will be treated this November, with a wonderful steam train passing through Herefordshire.

On Saturday 12th November, The Welsh Marches Express Steam Train will pass through Herefordshire.

From Vintage Trains:

“Journey at speed along Great Western Railway main lines with a titan of express steam locomotives – a Castle Class engine.

“Join us for a day that combines the excitement of traveling behind a famous steam locomotive with a variety of picturesque Welsh/English borders views.

“This trip follows a circular route, departing from Tyseley in Birmingham. From there, we head towards Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury then take the Welsh borders line through Craven Arms and past Stokesay Castle, pausing at Hereford to visit the city.

“Following this break, our steam locomotive climbs the Llanvihangel bank, burrows through the Severn Tunnel and passes along Brunel’s Bristol to London Great Western Main Line. To finish off the day in style, we return to Birmingham via Oxford and with a last hurrah finish on the steep, well-known Hatton bank.

“You can board this trip at Tyseley Locomotive Works where there is parking. The journey leaves at 7am and has you back at 7pm.

We expect to use our locomotive No. 5043 Earl of Mount Edgecombe on this trip although supply issues mean that the locomotive may not be ready in time for the journey. In this case, sister engine No. 7029 Clun Castle will be used.
