On Thursday 25th May, 140 pupils from St Michael’s School Bodenham and Burley Gate School visited the opening day of the Knitted Bible exhibition at St Michael’s Church, Bodenham.

Well-known bible stories have been captured in wool in this quirky national exihibition.

Commenting on the project, the Mrs Chambers, Head of Bodenham School said:

“The children were absolutely fascinated by the exhibition. They loved recognising characters and learning new stories, and really appreciate all the work that has gone into creating the scenes.”

The Knitted Bible exhibition began life in a small way in 2008 when a few members of St George’s United Reformed Church in Hartlepool starting knitting to create the scene of ‘The Last Supper’.

The project has since grown amazingly and now comprises 34 different table-top scenes depicting some of the best-known stories in the Bible.  Displays range from Noah’s ark, Daniel in the lion’s den and Jonah and the whale to the Christmas and Easter stories.

The exhibition is now open at Bodenham Church until 7th June.  Monday – Saturday: 10am-4pm; Sunday: 12noon – 4pm.

Entry is free and refreshments are served, with craft stalls and breakfast baps on Saturdays.
