Andrew Davis is lacing up his running shoes to take on the iconic TCS London Marathon in April in support of the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC).

Andrew, a long-time running enthusiast, decided to tackle the ultimate endurance test this year with a clear goal in mind – to raise vital funds to support the work of the College. Andrew says it will be his first and only marathon making the challenge even more significant.

His connection to RNC runs deep. Several years ago, Andrew completed a massage course at the College, where he developed a strong appreciation for the invaluable work it does in supporting young people with visual impairment. Through conversations with his tutor, Jim Wallis, Andrew gained a deeper understanding of the College’s ongoing need for fundraising to continue its services.

‘I have been running for quite a few years and genuinely enjoy it,’ says Andrew. ‘When I decided to take on the marathon challenge, it felt like the perfect opportunity to give back to a charity that does such incredible work in our local community.’

Andrew’s commitment to RNC extends beyond his fundraising efforts. He is also a volunteer at the College, assisting with tandem piloting and providing visually impaired students with the opportunity to experience cycling on the new cycle track in Hereford.

By trade, Andrew is a carpenter/joiner, operating his business, ACMD Joinery. He was previously pursuing a career change to become a Massage Therapist but was unfortunately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which temporarily put those plans on hold.

This isn’t Andrew’s first foray into impressive fundraising challenges for RNC. In 2021, he completed an arduous endurance cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats, and in 2022, he conquered the Ride London-Essex 100.

‘Andrew has been an absolutely fantastic supporter of RNC for a number of years now,’ says Fiona Bain, RNC’s Senior Fundraiser. ‘Whether he’s volunteering his time or undertaking these incredible physical challenges, his dedication to our students is truly inspiring. We are immensely grateful for his ongoing support and wish him the very best of luck in the TCS London Marathon.’

Andrew is now in the final stages of his training and is eager to take on the 26.2-mile challenge.
