A new repair cafe is starting up in the centre of Hereford, just one week after International Repair Day which is on Saturday 19th October.

This year, International Repair Day celebrates 15 years since the founding of the first repair cafe in Amsterdam. Since October 2009, more than 3000 repair cafes have sprung up worldwide, and there are over 300 in the UK.

Repair cafes are a place where local communities come together to fix household items. They divert good items from landfill, save people money and create a positive social event at the same time.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire are a hotbed of repair activity, with thirteen repair cafes across the two counties.

Repair Cafe Hereford City will now bring that total to fourteen. It’s first session will be on Saturday 26th October (10am to 12:30), and it will be open on the last Saturday of the month thereafter (excluding December). The repair sessions will be held at Holy Trinity Church on Whitecross Road.

Rod Howell, who helped set up the Repair Cafes in Worcester and Hereford City said: “We are absolutely thrilled that a new Repair CafĂ© is starting in Hereford in the same month as International Repair Day. Repair Cafes are a place where good things happen. We are always looking to welcome new volunteers, so anyone interested in joining should reach out to their local group”.

Wherever you are in the two counties, there is bound to be a repair cafe close to you.
