Staff and volunteers at one of Herefordshire’s largest charities have marked its 40th birthday.
St Michael’s Hospice welcomed its first patients on 31st October 1984, and has grown ever since, to the point where almost 2,500 people were cared for or supported in the last year.
To celebrate four decades of care, the Hospice’s first-ever Ward Sister, Jean Fisher, and one of its original volunteers, Stephen Rabbitts, cut a celebratory cake.
The milestone came in the same week as the Bartestree-based Hospice raised over £310,000 during its Caring for the Future campaign.
The money was collected in just 40 hours. Half the funds came from supporters, with each donation matched by generous backers.
