Earlier this year Herefordshire Charity The ELY Memorial Fund made the tough decision to cancel all of their planned events for 2020 for the safety of their supporters and volunteers.
The charity, who are well known among cyclists in the county due to their annual cycle events, have created a new virtual event to inspire people across the county to get out on their bikes. The ELY Memorial Fund’s Virtual Cycle Challenge encourages everyone to get out on their bike and ride 100 miles over the course of August.
Angela Tyler, Charity Manager of The ELY Memorial Fund, said “Covid-19 has brought many challenges for charities across the UK. Our events are the main source of income for the charity, so we have needed to adapt and look at new ways to raise money whilst challenging and engaging people across Herefordshire.
After seeing all of the effort and time that has gone into them, cancelling our planned events was a tough decision, but ultimately the right one. I’m really pleased that we’re able to run a virtual event that helps get people out of their homes, whilst also raising both awareness and funds for the charity.”
The ELY Memorial Fund’s Virtual Cycle Challenge takes place throughout August and is open to all ages. To find out more or to sign up visit their website www.ely-memorial-fund.org.uk or find them on Facebook.
