Your Herefordshire can confirm that The Children’s Bookshelf Bookshop will move into the JJB unit on Commercial Street in Hereford in the coming months.

We are delighted to announce that this empty unit has a new tenant, a number of years after the sportswear company closed its doors for the final time more than a decade ago.

Work has been taking place behind the scenes to secure a deal, with the Children’s Bookshelf team hoping to transform the building into a facility that will be used by many in the city, with plenty of exciting announcements to come.

The Herefordshire Reading Trust CIC will also be located in this unit.

‘The Herefordshire Reading Trust exists to inspire and support a lifelong love of reading in children and young people, especially those from low-income and neurodiverse backgrounds.

‘Through Pop-Up Book Events in schools and a welcoming community Hub, our mission is to provide access to affordable or free books, offer tailored reading advice and deliver specialist literacy events.

‘We will empower parents, teachers and schools with the tools, training and resources needed to raise literacy levels—improving educational outcomes, mental health and social mobility across Herefordshire.’

The unit has been available to purchase / rent for a number of years, and this news will be welcome to many nearby businesses, with the outside of the store looking run down for many years.

Your Herefordshire will have further news on this exciting project over the coming weeks.

A fantastic piece of news for Hereford, with more to be revealed very soon.
