Three schools have confirmed that they will be closing for the day, with flooding affecting parts of Herefordshire and surrounding counties.
Corvedale C of E Primary School is closed due to flooding.
Pencombe C of E Primary School is also closed today due to treacherous road conditions in and around the village due to flood water.
Stoke Prior Primary School will be closing at midday due to flooding in the area.
Further heavy rain has been fallowing overnight across Herefordshire, with flooding affecting some routes.
There is standing water on Holme Lacy Road in Hereford, underneath the railway bridge and near the Wye Inn pub. It is passable with care at present (7.45am).
There is also standing water on Belmont Road, Asda Roundabout and on the A438 between Hereford and Ledbury. These routes remain open.
There is also significant standing water on the A4103 Hereford to Worcester Road at Radway Bridge.
The heaviest of the rain should pass by mid morning, with showers, some heavy at times, following for the rest of the day.
A flood alert has been issued on the River Wye in Herefordshire. Levels are falling in Hereford this morning, but will rise again later today.
From the Environment Agency:
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye.
“Other locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford.”
There are also flood alerts in force on the River Frome, River Leadon Catchment and on the River Lugg, south of Leominster.
Further spells of rain are likely over the coming days.
