Little Pomona’s first cider of the season, its Disco Nouveau 2021, is due to be released on Saturday 20 November at a special Open Day to be held at the award-winning cidery’s Tasting Room in Avenbury, near Bromyard.

Inspired by the enthusiasm of the Beaujolais, who always release the first wines from that year’s harvest on the third Thursday in November, Little Pomona kicked off the Cider Nouveau movement in 2020. Ciders appeared from the award-winning cidery and other producers, including near neighbours, Halfpenny Green.

This year for Disco Nouveau, Little Pomona is joining with friends the Burum Collective, the game-changing network and platform seeking to improve the drinks industry through promoting inclusivity, accessibility and education.

“This year we were fortunate to get some great apples, and happy to report, fermentation has gone well, so we hope you will enjoy our contribution to this year’s Cider Nouveau movement,” says Little Pomona co-founder, Susanna Forbes. “We are so happy to be teaming up with the Burum Collective to share this year’s Disco Nouveau. They’re a vital force in the drinks and hospitality scene and well worth checking out,”

Burum co-founder Helen Anne Smith has been part of the core harvest crew at Little Pomona this year. “We are excited to be involved with this year’s Disco Nouveau!” says Helen. “It’s been wonderful to work alongside Little Pomona on such a special project, especially knowing that more cider makers are taking part this year, and we’re really looking forward to trying everyone’s releases.”

As well as the ever-fragrant Discovery apple, this year’s Disco Nouveau includes a component of the pink-fleshed apple, Rosette, plus a splash of perry pears and Egremont Russet.

All are welcome at the Open Day on Saturday 20 November. Along with mulled cider, savoury bites from Peter Cooks Bread, there’ll be tours at 1pm, plus a special organic apple juice and chutney tasting from Kimbolton’s own Innocent Pilgrim, Russell Sutcliffe.

For those making the trip, why not double up and head to Bromyard Christmas Lights switch on after? Check out their website for the schedule, including drummers and lantern parade at 5pm prior to switch on at 5.15pm
