St Michael’s Hospice has confirmed that its Holmer Road Home and Living Shop will be closing its doors for the final time just after Christmas.

Earlier this year, St Michael’s Hospice announced that the lease on the shop was coming to an end and would be closing permanently.

Its final day of trading has now been confirmed as Saturday, 6th January.

Despite the news, St Michael’s will continue its strong presence in the city, with customers still able to shop and make donations in support of the Hospice at other Hereford locations, including the Home and Living shop on Whitecross Road and the pound shop in Eign Gate.

A brand-new site with over 4,000 square feet full of pre-loved goods is also set to open in February in the former Iceland premises.

Since opening in 2013, the Holmer Road Home and Living shop has been a key part of the Hospice’s retail portfolio, helping raise a significant amount of funds to enable St Michael’s to continue providing its palliative and end-of-life care across the community.

“To everyone who has visited us at Holmer Road, bought items, donated stock, or just popped in for a browse, we would like to say a huge Thank You,” said Rachel Jones, the Hospice’s Income Generation, Marketing & Communications Director.

“This shop has been a success for two reasons; the support of the community, and the unwavering dedication of the staff and volunteers who have made the site such a welcoming place to many over the years.

“Despite the news, this is an exciting time for St Michael’s as we forge ahead with plans to open several new stores in 2024, with the largest premises at Whitestone Business Park due to open in the Spring of 2024.

“We look forward to welcoming our supporters to established and new shops over the coming months.”

Staff and volunteers from Holmer Road will play a big part in the new venues, and many familiar faces will be recognised by shoppers at both locations.

The Holmer Road shop will continue to operate as normal up to the Christmas holidays, closing on Saturday 23rd December and reopening on Wednesday 27th December.

From the 27th, the shop will be holding a closing sale with discounts across all departments up until the shop officially closes on 6th January.
