The company is an established Motor Trade retail group which is looking to provide an
improved facility for its customers on this site and fully introduce a new vehicle manufacturer BYD to the site.
There is currently a temporary BYD Showroom present on the site, however this does not meet the current standards set by BYD in terms of quality, customer care and environmental/sustainable practise.
It is considered that whilst the dealership has been established at the site for a substantial number of years, changes in the market place, business practise, the visual impact of the buildings and efficiencies of the site, the current dealership in its present state does not meet the needs of the company and parts of the existing building need to be redeveloped and extended.
The premises as they stand do not provide sufficient sales space for the introduction of the BYD brand with out of date equipment and insufficient building layout.
BYD’s requirements dictate that the site needs to be redeveloped which will positively enhance the street scene and the local area.
It is considered that to fully introduce the BYD brand to the site, the redevelopment of part of the existing dealership is required to improve the external appearance of the existing including the demolition of an outdated single storey section and construction a new larger modern looking single storey extension more suitable for the BYD corporate identity.
The Client also decided that while the redevelopment is carried out for introduction of BYD to the site, they would take the opportunity to refurbish other areas of the dealership to improve the look and feel of the site together will improving thermally efficient of the existing building envelope where possible, including upgrading the eternal appearance of the Proposed Service Reception/Future Showroom space which is currently being used as a Temporary BYD Showroom.
The goal of the redevelopment/refurbishment is to make the best use of the site, retain the existing boundary features and minimising the impact on adjacent neighbours/properties.
This will be achieved through retaining the existing boundary treatments so not disturb/impact the existing landscaping/vegetation to the perimeter of the site and by ensuring that all activities including parking and deliveries are carefully considered.
