Businesses have been called upon to do their part in keeping the city clean following a community business clean-up session in Whitecross Road in early July.
Mike Truelove, CEO for the Hereford BID, a private limited company that supports over 500 city centre businesses with projects to support footfall and trade said:
“During our 3rd community cleanup of the year we were joined by staff from the Kerry Hereford and Old Market Shopping Centre who kindly volunteered to help us remove over 12 bags of street weeds and litter stretching from the Horse & Groom to the Fish and Chip shop.
“Whilst it is fantastic that these businesses came from their own areas of operation to help others, it was disappointing to see the neglect around the shops, and we have written to all businesses concerned including Sainsbury and Aldi to ask if they would help do their bit in keeping boundaries and pavements tidy”.
The Hereford BID delivers many projects to support trade for their members including the Hereford Gift Card, LoyalFree App, marketing which includes a regular newsletter from their consumer brand Hereford City Life, hanging baskets and much more.
Mike explained that Business Community Cleans are an occasional but important activity where they normally target an entry into the city centre.
Mike added: “It can be rightly argued that the local authority should do more. However, when there are weeds growing to the height of your knees there is also the aspect of businesses taking pride in their frontages and surrounding areas.
“To pull up some weeds need only take seconds and we call on all those businesses we helped to spare a small amount of time each month to do just that and give their customers a nicer view of the city. It certainly can’t hurt trade”.
