Ellie Chowns, Green MP candidate for North Herefordshire, is backing local sustainable businesses on Small Business Saturday (2ndDecember):

“I’ve been visiting the small businesses at the heart of our Herefordshire economy, and I know how important they are to local communities – as Herefordshire Council Cabinet member for Environment and Economy I set up the successful Shop Local prepaid card scheme.

“I’ve recently had the pleasure of being shown round two innovative businesses in Stoke Lacy – the wonderful Wye Valley Brewery and WCM+A, a sustainable British manufacturer of badges, awards and much more.

Both Vernon at Wye Valley Brewery and Simon at WCM+A are fully committed to making their businesses as sustainable as possible, showing others how to make a success of going green.

“These are the kind of local sustainable businesses of the future that will help renew our local economy and that I want to champion if voters send me to Parliament at the next General Election.

“I’m proud to stand for a party that champions small businesses. The Green Party’s national plan for Small Business Saturday includes an extra £3 billion of green grants for small businesses, reform of VAT to give small businesses a boost versus larger corporations, and suspending Covid repayments to take financial pressure off small businesses.

“This Small Business Saturday – and every Saturday – I urge everyone to get out and support our local Herefordshire businesses!”
