A Herefordshire-based business is celebrating after hitting a 10-year milestone of growing its high-quality British asparagus to Aldi.

Freshfields first started growing asparagus for Britain’s fourth largest supermarket back in 2014 and now produces two million spears of asparagus each year for Aldi.

The family-run business has been farming in Herefordshire for over 100 years, ensuring the highest quality, 100% British produce is stocked on the nation’s fridges up and down the country.

Its ongoing relationship with Aldi has had a significant impact on the business, with the partnership helping Freshfields to invest in responsible growing, including bio control and the latest irrigation systems.

Jack Hawkins, Farm Manager at Freshfields, said: â€śAt Freshfields, we’re passionate about providing the highest quality British produce and we’re proud to partner with a supermarket that champions just that.

“Working with Aldi over the past decade has allowed us to expand and grow as a business, and we look forward to continuing to do so over the coming years.”

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, commented: “Freshfields is a much-valued grower to Aldi, and it is great to be able to celebrate their lasting partnership with us.

“At Aldi, we take pride in championing British suppliers and growers, and Freshfields is just one example of the brilliant British businesses that we support.”

In 2023, Aldi spent an additional ÂŁ1.3 billion with British suppliers, and works with around 5,000 suppliers across the UK.

Aldi’s asparagus tips will be on Super Six promotion for two weeks commencing on 30th May.
