Looking for something to do with the children this summer? Then Dan-yr-Ogof – The National Showcaves Centre for Wales is for you!
Ten attractions all included in the one entry ticket – there is plenty to see and do for all ages.
Dan-yr-Ogof – Caves
The river Llynfell emerges from the mountain as you approach the entrance to Dan-yr-Ogof, returning to the surface after an underground journey of more than 6km. It was by way of this entrance that the Morgan Brothers made their dramatic discovery in 1912.
Tommy and Jeff Morgan had only candles to light their way, a coracle to cross the lakes they encountered, rope to help with the dangerous climbs they undertook, but of course no map to help guide them! Today, you can enjoy this natural wonder without any of the difficulties they experienced over 100 years ago.
Be amazed by the famous “Rasher of Bacon”, the heavenly “Angel” and the “Alabaster Pillar” – just some of the beautiful formations discovered by the Morgan Brothers during their adventures.
These incredibly brave acts of discovery were not surpassed until 1963, when a relatively inexperienced caver, Eileen Davies, made a significant breakthrough in the exploration of Dan-yr-Ogof. The “Long Crawl” was finally conquered; so far this has led to the discovery of an incredible cave system with over 16km of explored passageways.
Who knows what might be discovered tomorrow?
Dinosaur Park
Explore one of the world’s largest award-winning dinosaur parks – see over 250 life-sized dinosaur models, and get up close and personal with some of the monsters from millions of years ago!
Dare you face the terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex that could swallow 230kg of meat in a single bite? Meet the massive Brachiosaurus weighing more than 15 elephants, and wonder at the strange and unusual crest on the Tsintaosaurus’ head!
With so many dinosaurs on site, will you find your favourite…?
Barney Owl’s Playground
Situated down at the farm, the covered playgrounds can be found within the large barn area just behind the duck ponds.
You’ll find a door at either end allowing access into the two different play areas.
Watch your children ‘race’ around the themed Jurassic Karting track, or explore the indoor adventure paradise of slides, rope climbs, tunnels and aerial walkways in Barney’s Adventure Playground.
Children must be supervised in these playgrounds. There are viewing areas and seats for adults to use, whilst the younger ones are using up some energy before the trip home!
Age restrictions apply – Jurassic Karting Track ages 3 – 6 years; Barney Owl’s Adventure Playground 6 – 10 years.
Mr Morgan’s Victorian Farm
Down at Mr. Morgan’s Farm you can meet goats and Shetland ponies, see alpacas and llamas grazing in the fields.
The scenes at Mr. Morgan’s Victorian Farm show how farming families lived and worked during this time.
Visit Megan at the farm shop, Dai the Blacksmith with Twm the sheepdog, and of course, Mr. Morgan himself!
