Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to outline new laws that will aim to help cut obesity in the United Kingdom.
Buy one get one free offers on high fat products are expected to be banned and junk food adverts are expected to be banned on TV and online before 9pm and shops will not be allowed to display sweets and chocolates at checkouts as part of a national crackdown on obesity.
The Prime Minister will encourage people up and down the United Kingdom to lose weight as part of a ‘Better Health’ campaign that he hopes will relieve pressure on the NHS and improve the overall health of the nation.
Obesity has been linked to causing a more severe reaction amongst Coronavirus patients and the government are concerned about the possibility of a second wave of the virus during the winter months.
Mr Johnson said:
“Losing weight is hard but with some small changes we can all feel fitter and healthier.
“If we all do our bit, we can reduce our health risks and protect ourselves against coronavirus – as well as taking pressure off the NHS.”
