A group of local firefighters are set to take part in the Brecon Beacons 10 Peaks Challenge this summer to raise money for The Firefighters Charity.
Participants: Spencer Jones, Dave Smith, Andrew Pierce, Anthony Wilson, Carl Pearson, Nick Crum, Gareth Pierce, Mark Gillett, Mike Lowe, John Probert, Nick Tuckwell, Luke Powell, Trevor Connolly, Arron Semple, Martin Lewis.
Stuart Crebbin explains why they are taking part:
“I want to raise money for The Firefighters Charity and at the same time take the opportunity to tell my story.
The Firefighters Charity is currently in need of urgent donations to help them through the coronavirus pandemic period. I want to be there for them like they are there for me and I’m asking my friends, family and colleagues to step up and support this fantastic charity which is helping me and many others get through some extremely difficult times.
In January 2020 I was diagnosed with PTSD and in April 2020 I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer which has spread to my liver and lungs. Living with PSTD and cancer has had a devastating effect on me but I’m staying positive with the help of loved ones, friends, colleagues and the Charity.
I’m due to attend Harcombe House when coronavirus restrictions allow. And in the meantime the specialist staff have been there for me when I need them either online or over the phone.
My cancer treatment consists of both chemotherapy and immunotherapy and although I’ve got a long way to go I’m pleased to say that I’m responding well to the initial treatment! So much so that I’m feeling really positive about my future. I’m currently back at work on a temporary redeployment and like many others; working from home!
You never know what life has to throw at you and I want The Firefighters Charity to be there for you in the future just like it’s here for me now.
Please donate whatever you can.
Stu.”
