Three people have been arrested following an incident at the weekend in which a police car was attacked in Stourport.
The incident happened around 1pm on Saturday (26 September) on Linden Avenue when officers reported that two men wearing balaclavas and riding a black motorbike approached them in the marked car.
One of the men threw a brick at the driver side window of the car. However, fortunately, the PC driving was not injured and the window remained intact, though the wing mirror was damaged.
It is believed the attack is linked to an incident at around 12.30pm on Yarranton Close where threats were made to officers recovering a vehicle without tax.
It is further suspected the motorbike in the attack on the police car was later involved in an RTC in York Street, Stourport around 4pm which was abandoned at the scene. That bike was recovered by police.
Yesterday (Monday 28th September), officers from Wyre Forest Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) arrested two men in the Bewdley area.
An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, criminal damage and a public order offence.
A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of threats to cause criminal damage and theft of a motor vehicle.
They have both been released on bail.
Another man, aged 19, was today arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and theft of a motor vehicle and remains in custody.
Police Sergeant Ian Squires from Wyre Forest SNT said: “We are pleased to make three arrests following this unacceptable and unprovoked attack on an officer who had been executing his duties.
“Fortunately, the officer involved was uninjured, but this could have been a very different outcome that could have resulted in members of the public being hurt as well.
“West Mercia Police takes such incidents very seriously as an attack on a police officer or indeed, any other emergency service worker, is an attack on society.”
