North Herefordshire MP Ellie Chowns provides update on Post Office services in Leominster.

North Herefordshire MP Ellie Chowns has provided an update on efforts to secure the future of Post Office services in Leominster amid concerns over the planned closure of the town’s Morrisons Daily store.

Residents across North Herefordshire have expressed concern about the potential loss of Post Office services if the Morrisons Daily (Martin’s) branch in Leominster closes before an alternative location is secured.

In a statement, Ellie Chowns said she remains committed to finding a solution and has been working closely with key organisations to ensure continuity of service for local residents.

The MP confirmed she has maintained regular contact with the Post Office and has facilitated discussions involving the Post Office’s regional manager, Leominster Town Council, Herefordshire Council and the Kington postmaster.

The discussions have focused on identifying both a long-term location for the Post Office and measures to prevent any interruption to services should the Morrisons store close before a permanent site is found.

At a meeting held on June 3, representatives from Leominster Town Council and Herefordshire Council put forward potential premises that could accommodate the Post Office. Following the meeting, Herefordshire Council submitted a detailed proposal for consideration.

Ellie Chowns said the Post Office has now confirmed it is willing to explore the possibility of operating a temporary branch while a permanent location is secured. The organisation has also assigned a staff member to assess the premises suggested by Herefordshire Council.

The MP said she will continue to press the Post Office for a clear timetable regarding its review of the proposed sites and hopes a positive decision can be reached soon.

She also confirmed she will be contacting Morrisons to ask whether the closure date for the Leominster store can be delayed for as long as possible to help maintain continuity of service.

While the final decision on the future location of the Post Office rests with the Post Office itself, Ellie Chowns said she will continue working to ensure Leominster retains full-time Post Office services and that a solution is found as quickly as possible.
