An investigation has been launched following a report that a woman was raped in Worcester yesterday morning (Saturday 2 May).

It is believed the incident happened between 6am and 8.30am in an alleyway on The Tything.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He remains in police custody as enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Lisa Tibbits said: “I know an incident like this will bring great concern to the community and I would like to reassure the public that a thorough investigation is now on going.

“I am appealing to anybody who may have any information that would help with our enquiries, however insignificant you feel it may be, to please contact the police. As part of our investigation we have a man in custody, who is helping us with enquiries.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area as we carry out enquiries and specially trained officers are supporting the victim”.
