Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the A38 near Lichfield this morning (7 March).
Staffordshire Police were called to a report of a collision between a car and a child on the A38 at the junction with the A5206 at around 5am.
Sadly, the child, a boy aged 7, died at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
To help with the investigation, the A38 remains closed in both directions between the A5148 and A5 junctions, although this is expected to be reopened shortly.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage which could help collision investigators.
