Two people have been arrested following a rape in Worcester over the weekend.

The incident occurred in Cripplegate park at around 2am this morning (Sunday 10 August).

Following extensive enquiries today, a 15-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of rape. Both are in police custody.

Detective Superintendent Tony Garner said: “I’m pleased that we’ve been able to quickly identify and detain two people in relation to this distressing incident.

“I would like to reassure you that we no longer believe there is any threat to the wider public.

“Our enquiries have established that the victim, a 17-year-old girl, was helped by two members of the public following the incident. They are described as a man and woman, both around 18-years-old. They are not in any trouble, but we are keen to identity them as they may have important evidence which will help with our investigation.

“We would ask them to please get in touch with Detective Sergeant Leanne Mitchell on leanne.mitchell@westmercia.police.uk as soon as possible.”
