Officers investigating the death of a man in Ross-on-Wye last Thursday (July 24) have released new information.

Initial enquires suggested that the man, aged 74, may have been involved in an incident involving a car mounting the pavement on Copse Cross Street days before his death.

Thanks to information provided by the public following an appeal on Friday (July 25) officers now believe that incident happened on Thursday 17 July.

It is believed that the man moved out of the way as a car mounted the pavement while driving down Copse Cross Street, causing him to stumble and trip.

Officers are now keen to speak to anyone who was in the area on Thursday 17 July and may have witnessed anything that could help with their investigation. They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have captured the incident on dashcam.

On Thursday (July 24) officers were called to Broad Street in Ross-on-Wye to reports of a man suffering a medical episode. Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are keen to establish whether the man fell the week before his death when avoiding the car.

Detective Inspector Ben Pearson, said: “I would like to the thank the public for their help following our appeal on Friday, as information given to us has helped us narrow down the dates of the first incident.

“We are now aware that on Thursday 17 July a car may have mounted the pavement slightly when navigating Copse Cross Street, subsequently causing the man to stumble and possibly fall.

“We are now keen to speak to anyone who travelled down Copse Cross Street on that day, or was in that area who may have witnessed such an incident happen.

“As we said last week we do not believe the car mounted the pavement with intent to harm the man. The street is incredibly narrow which causes drivers to often need to mount the pavement to drive down there.

“On Thursday, a week after the first incident, officers responded to reports of a man suffering a medical episode, where he sadly died. We are keen to understand if the incident that happened a week before may have caused the man to fall.

“We would also encourage the driver of the car to contact officers to help us get a better understanding of what happened.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DI Pearson by calling 01432 347277 quoting incident number 334i of July 24, 2025.
