A birthday wish was granted this week for a retired former West Mercia Police officer when she got the chance to be a police officer again.
Jean Mulcaster, who lives at a care home, had a magical trip down memory lane on Monday morning to celebrate her 83rd birthday thanks to officers from West Mercia Police.
Jean, who started her career with Worcester Police in 1962, before it became part of West Mercia Constabulary, served for around ten years before she retired in the 1970s to take care of her young children.
She met her husband Bob while serving and policing truly runs in the family, with their son Alistair also following in their footsteps!

The special treat came about after Jean placed a wish on the ‘wish tree’ at Droitwich Mews Care Home saying it was her dream to be a police officer again just for one day.
And thanks to PCSO Denise Bushell’s community engagement work liaising with the care home, we were made aware and more than happy to make her wish come true.
PCSO Bushell collected Jean and brought her back to Droitwich Police Station where she was greeted by Sergeant Cathy Atkinson and her team who sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her.

Jean reminisced about the old days of policing and some of the jobs she remembered going to before trying on some of the modern-day kit, getting her fingerprints done the old-fashioned way with a pretend set, and firing up the ‘blues and twos’ in a patrol car.
PCSO Bushell said: “It was lovely to meet Jean and make her birthday wish come true so she could be a police officer again for the day.
“Engaging with our different communities is an important part of our jobs and we hope we gave Jean an experience she will remember forever.
“It was lovely hearing all the stories from her days in policing and seeing her reaction to trying on the uniform and sitting in a police car.”

Then and now – Droitwich SNT made Jean’s birthday wish come true.
