Police have issued important advice to residents in a Herefordshire village, following reports of a man knocking on doors in the area.

In a notice to residents, West Mercia Police said:

Residents are advised to be cautious following reports of a male knocking on doors in the area of Marden, offering to pay money for gold, jewellery, and watches.

Description of the individual:

White male, approximately 6ft 1in tall, early 30s, slim build, wearing a yellowish/tan open-neck shirt. 

There is currently no evidence to suggest this individual is not genuine; however, residents are strongly encouraged to exercise caution when allowing unknown people into their homes.

Safety advice:

Do not let strangers into your home without verifying their identity or purpose.

Use a door viewer or ask for identification through a window or door chain.

Consider speaking to neighbours to share information and look out for each other.
