Three police officers received treatment after they were bitten by a man who was resisting arrest last weekend.

The assault happened in the afternoon on Saturday 27 June when officers responded to a call of a disturbance.

The bites broke the skin and left clear bite marks on the officers. All received hospital treatment.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault on emergency workers, burglary and criminal damage. He has been released on police bail.

No-one else was injured in the incident.

Chief Superintendent Edd Williams said: “Police officers expect to face challenging situations during their duties, but violence against them is despicable. It is an affront on public safety and will not be tolerated.

“Assaults on emergency workers are criminal acts and will be dealt with accordingly.”
