Local residents have been sharing their concerns with he Police and Herefordshire Council, after travellers pitched up in a village.

Villagers in Wigmore have been in contact with Police and the Council, following reports of incidents in the area.

Travellers have set up camp in Bury Field in Wigmore, with Police providing an update for local residents in an email sent earlier this week.

From West Mercia Police:

“The Leominster Safer Neighbourhood Team were made aware of the encampment a couple of days ago and have conducted a visit to the location, to identify who they are, their intentions and provide them with a code of conduct letter.

“We then have been liaising with Herefordshire County Council (senior travelling Liaison Officer), parish council and Environment Agency over the situation so that all agencies are aware to take action to evict them from the land.

“I understand that the parish council have now drafted a letter to serve on the encampment and today (01/07) members of the Safer Neighbourhood Team with the parish council are attending to serve the letter to them.

“They will have 24 hours notice to move.

“If they fail to do this, the parish council will need to go to the court to get an order to formally evict them and potentially seek bailiffs support.”
