Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at Marks and Spencer in Hereford on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 2.30pm. The store was evacuated. 

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service told Your Herefordshire:

“Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Hereford Fire Station were called at 14:31 on 18 June to smoke issuing at a shop in High Town, Hereford. 

“Smoke was discovered in an escalator shaft but no sign of fire has been found.

“The incident is ongoing.”

The store reopened at around 5.30pm on Wednesday and will open as normal today (Thursday).
