Hereford Cathedral has confirmed that well behaved dogs can visit the Cathedral from Monday 2nd June.
From Herefordshire Council:
Following on from visitor feedback, from Monday 2 June 2025 we will be welcoming well-behaved dogs into the cathedral on a six-month trial.
The following restrictions* will apply:
- Dogs must always remain under control and on a short, fixed lead whilst in the cathedral premises
- Dogs mustn’t be tethered to anything or left unattended at any point
- Dogs are not permitted in the Mappa Mundi & Chained Library Museum, the inside seating area of the Cathedral Café or the Cathedral Cloisters
- Dogs are not permitted to join services or events, including tours
*these restrictions do not apply to assistance dogs who are permitted to enter all areas of the building
Dog owners are responsible for the cleaning up of any mess caused by their dog whilst visiting and are asked to always be mindful of their surroundings. The staff and volunteers of Hereford Cathedral are permitted to ask any owner and their dog to leave the building should they feel that the dog is causing a disruption.
A water bowl is provided in the Chapter House Garden and dog-friendly ice creams are available to purchase from the Cathedral Café during the summer. We would kindly ask owners to take their dogs into the main Cathedral Close for toileting needs rather than the Lady Arbour or Chapter House Gardens. We look forward to welcoming you and your canine companions to the cathedral this summer!
