It’s hard for many that attended Whitecross High School in Hereford to believe that it’s almost twenty years since the old school was demolished!

Whitecross High School is now located just off Three Elms Road in Hereford, replacing the former school that was located on Baggallay Street.

Many will have some fond memories and some of you will have some ‘not so fond’ memories of your time at Whitecross, but we’d love to hear them.

Here are a selection of photos taken by Alan Broatch just a short time before the school was demolished.

The photos saw so many comments in our Herefordshire Memories Facebook Group, including the following:

Leslie Preece: “I was there 1957/61! was a little helper on the chain gang digging out the swimming pool! Did have the honour of being one of the first to break the ice on our first swim!”

Eddie Clements: “I was there 59-64….Champion was my form Master and I was in the school Brass Band run by the great Glance Williams.”

Lee Simms: “Had the pleasure of spending my first high school year here before they moved up to new build. Some memories I will always keep was the after school track sessions. Good fun and all changed at the new school as had to follow the book to the letter.”

Matt Healey of Your Herefordshire recently shared these photos from a school prospectus in the early 1990s.
