Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue have provided an update on a dog that was found alongside a road in Herefordshire on Friday.

From Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue:

“Thank you to all who have messaged and shown concern for the GSD stray that was caught on Friday.

“We have tried all we can to locate a genuine owner via the microchip with no luck although we do have some very valuable information.

“We try not to assume that all stray dogs have been abandoned but considering the poor condition of the coat, the location the dog was running (some of our previous lurchers have been dumped there before!) and the fact the dog is still absolutely petrified of human contact we have once again been drawn to the very sad reality and conclusion that this poor soul was likely cruelly dumped in that spot!!

“One of the lovely members of public that was already on hand before we, by fate, stumbled upon the sad situation yesterday, had driven along that road at around 11am ish yesterday morning (21/03/25) and had seen the dog but had assumed that it was someone as there was a dark coloured truck nearby.

“Now, this of course could have been totally innocent but if anyone in the area or passing along the roads near to the C1221 (Specifically the Kingstone to Abbeydore road) saw anything suspicious yesterday/any sightings of this poor dog (& what time) or has any dashcam footage that could be useful please get in touch.

“The dog hadn’t left the area and stayed relatively close which is often the case for abandoned dogs.

“As always, we have already received snippets of info which we hugely appreciate so these are being looked into!

“We would really love a genuine owner to come forward, please do get in touch if you think this is your dog or you know where they belong, we hope there could be a simple explanation.

“For now, we are pleased to say the dog is very safe, eating ok, drinking well, comfortable and we hope to fully win them over soon.”
