From Hereford City Council:

Since their launch over one year ago, data has been collected on the Zipper buses in Hereford, revealing their increasing popularity amongst travellers in Hereford.

The three electric buses, named Handsome Norman, Pilot, and Green Horse, have been ferrying people across the City since November 2023. Led by Hereford City Council, operated by Yeomans Travel, and funded with Stronger Towns Funding, the buses offer a free means of travel for any passenger across Hereford.

To celebrate their success, we want to reveal some of the numbers behind the buses, showcasing the highlights of the past year.

Starting things off, from March 2024 to October 2024, the average number of passenger journeys per day was 495.

Sunday’s prove to be the least popular day, and if we discount that from the data the number rises to 557 passenger journeys per day. The busiest in that timeframe saw 804 passenger journeys in a single day!

That means there has been an average of 15,226 passenger journeys per month. The best month, October 2024, saw a high of 17,256 passenger journeys!

On average, a Zipper bus has 4 passengers per Zipper bus stop. The most popular stop by quite a figure, was Asda, with the Train Station in second, Maylord Orchards in third, and Broad Street not far behind in fourth.

These incredible figures reflect the increasing popularity of the Zipper bus, with passenger journey numbers steadily trending upwards. We hope that you’ve had a chance to have a ride on one of the Zippers, and if you haven’t – keep an eye out for the green bus.

We would also like to ask anyone using the buses who have a concessionary bus pass to please scan your pass on alighting. While this isn’t necessary for the journey, it helps by giving the Zipper’s a small monetary return from Herefordshire Council. Support your Zipper bus with a tap!
