Welsh Water have provided Your Herefordshire with an update on the temporary traffic lights that have been in place on the A49 at Wellington (between Hereford and Leominster) for several months.
A spokesperson for Welsh Water told Your Herefordshire:
“The traffic lights are in place on the A49 at Wellington Marsh to ensure the safety of our staff and contractors working on our behalf, as they carry out their duties.
“Our tankers are removing excess ground water and river water from the pumping station to ensure it doesn’t affect our wastewater network.
“It’s important that the pumping station at Wellington Marsh operates efficiently to avoid the flooding of local houses following periods of heavy rain.
“We understand that this work is frustrating for the community and for that we apologise.
“We are collaborating with the local authority to look at solutions to minimise the ingress of water and enable our pumping station to function as intended.
“We are aware there has been some issues with the lights.
“To help maintain a controlled flow through the traffic lights, we ask people to please follow the lights and only go through when green.
“Traveling through the lights when they are red can cause both sides to turn red, which has caused issues.”
