Tributes have been pouring in following the death of Matty Gillespie from Hereford.

Matty’s cousin Scott has shared the following tribute. It has received hundreds of comments on the Your Herefordshire Facebook page, with people sharing their memories of Matty from over the years.

In Memory of Matty Gillespie, who sadly passed away last week.

“For all that don’t know me my name is Scott.

“On the 9th of January at 15:34, I received a call that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

“For all that knew myself and Matty, before this devastating news, me and Matty grew up not just as family but as cousins, but more like brothers.

“We have stood side by side for 36 years.

“We have had what I could only call an unbreakable bond. As kids, we were pains in the backside, and as adults, he was everything to myself and his family.

“After the devastating murder of a close friend of ours, Rob. Matty’s mental health started to rapidly decline. For all that knew him could see, the Matty we once used to know was disappearing in front of our eyes day by day, week by week.

“Matty would have good days but also have really bad days, but with all his struggles, he somehow still managed to be there for all his kids and family no matter what the time, night, or day.

“He was amazing in every single way. He was our Matty, and we loved him no matter what, and he knows that.

“His laugh would lighten up a room with smiles, and his ways would have all laughing.

“I WANT HIM BACK, but I know whatever his choice was that day to take his life must have been mentally enough that he just couldn’t see any other way out. Even putting stuff like this is breaking me. LOVE YOU, MATTY.

“Our family has been asked by people if they can help in any way they can, so I’m starting this GoFundMe.

“Not that we can’t give Matty a send-off he deserves; we would all go broke to give him that, but to help ease that on others and all remaining funds will be passed to his kids and their future from here.

“There is a power in Hereford that in hard times we stand together, and to know the future in Matty will last in his kids will be appreciated.

“I have put the limit low because it’s more about supporting.”

THANK YOU. PLEASE HELP IN ANY WAY YOU POSSIBLY CAN. THANK YOU, SCOTT GILLESPIE.
