Police have launched an investigation following a dog attack in Herefordshire.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said:

“We want to make local residents aware of a worrying incident involving livestock on Westhope Hill.

“On 9th January 2025, a ram was attacked by a dog. The ram suffered injuries, including open wounds, missing wool, and teeth marks. This has caused significant distress to its owners and their livestock.

“A young black and white collie has been spotted in the area.

“It appears to be unaccompanied and does not approach people.

“We urge dog owners to ensure their pets are securely contained at home and always on a lead when near livestock.”

Advice for Dog Owners:

Always keep dogs on a lead near livestock, even if you believe they are well-behaved.

If you see a stray or unaccompanied dog, report it to your local council or dog warden.

Remember, farmers are legally allowed to protect their livestock if a dog is causing harm or danger.
