A Herefordshire school has confirmed that it will be closed on Monday due to flooding.

Westfield School in Leominster shared the following update:

“Due to flooding on routes used by staff and pupils to travel between home and school safely, some from significant distances, we have taken the advance decision to close to pupils on Monday 25th November, since we cannot guarantee these routes will be clear or safe by tomorrow morning.”

Residents in Herefordshire are being warned to expect flooding, with a number of flood warnings issued on river in the county.

Heavy rain associated with Storm Bert has caused localised flooding on routes overnight and this morning. 

The A465 between Hereford and Abergavenny has standing water in many areas, with some quite deep flooding at Wormbridge and Pontrilas.

The A49 between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye has standing water, as well as the A40 between Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth.

The A49 is closed between Leominster and Ludlow due to flooding near OK Diner. A stretch of the A49 is also flooded near Wellington, between Dinmore and Hereford.

A close eye is being kept on the Dulas Brook in Ewyas Harold and the Yazor Brook in Hereford. The Dulas has broken its banks in the village and was still rising at midday.

A Weather Warning has been issued for parts of Herefordshire this morning:

“Following heavy rain during Saturday and overnight, heavy rain will slowly clear east during Sunday. With 25-40 mm falling widely and 70-90 mm over hills already, a further 15-25 mm of rain this morning may lead to additional impacts. 

“A few places, particularly over hills, may see an additional 30-40 mm before rain clears east by early afternoon.”
