Edwards’ Seaweed Fertiliser UK, suppliers of natural seaweed products for commercial and domestic application, had the pleasure of hosting Green Party MP for North Herefordshire Dr Ellie Chowns at its farm in Ludlow on Friday 18 October 2024.
Dr Chowns visited Millwood Farm to speak with soil expert Dave Edwards, managing director and co-founder of Edwards’ Seaweed Fertiliser UK, and his team. They discussed environmental concerns regarding the local waterways and the positive impact that natural fertilisers can have on soils.
As Green MP for North Herefordshire, Dr Chowns is demanding action to protect nature in the region and is a staunch supporter of nature-friendly farming.
Edwards’ Seaweed Fertiliser UK is on a mission to promote regenerative farming across the UK. The family-run company specialises in natural fertilisers and biostimulents, using seaweed harvested sustainably from UK waters. The firm also provides independent soil advice, sampling and analysis.
Seaweed fertilisers are an economical and highly effective alternative to chemical fertilisers. Edwards’ Seaweed Fertiliser UK has developed a range of uniquely blended seaweed products that enhance plant and soil health without leaching into the environment.
Dave Edwards explains: “The pollution of the River Wye, which is just 20 miles from us at Millwood Farm, is a big topic of discussion around here but pollution is present in all rivers and watercourses across the UK. We need action. By utilising natural fertilisers and soil biology we can reduce chemical pollution. This will result in improved soil structure, better yields and higher margins, as well as a reduction in watercourse pollution. It all starts with the soil!”
Dr Chowns spent the afternoon at Millwood Farm with Dave Edwards and his team to understand the research around natural fertilisers and soil biology, including the products available and their environmental benefits.
