River levels on the River Lugg and River Wye in Herefordshire are continuing to rise this morning.
Levels on the Wye in Hereford are expected to peak at around 5 metres later today, meaning that riverside paths are underwater, as well as the usual prone spots like Watery Lane and potentially the Holme Lacy Causeway later.
Flood Warning – River Wye from Hay to Hereford:
“River levels are now falling at the Hay-On-Wye river gauge but continue to rise at the Bredwardine river gauge following recent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property continues.
“We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in and around Hay and Hereford areas including the A438 between Letton and Willersley and Whitney on Wye.
“Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye peaked at 3.67m at 2am on Thursday 17/10/24, Bredwardine 5.7m to 5.9m on Thursday morning.”
Flood Warning – River Wye in Hereford:
“River levels are rising at the Old Wye Bridge river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected Thursday afternoon, 17/10/24.
“We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in North Hereford including Greyfriars area.
“Predicted peak:- Old Wye Bridge 4.7m to 4.9m Thursday afternoon, 17/10/24.”
Flood Warning – River Lugg in Leominster:
“River levels have risen at the Osborne Place river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property is possible today.
“We expect flooding to affect properties in and around Vicarage Street and Bridge Street Sports field may be impacted.”
Flood Warning – River Lugg at Bodenham:
“River levels are rising at the Butts Bridge river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected today 17/10/24.
“We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in and around Bodenham. We expect river levels to remain high for the next couple of days.”
Flood Warning – River Teme at Walford and Leintwardine:
“River levels have risen at the Leintwardine river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Flooding is expected today, 17/10/24.
“We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in Leintwardine and Walford including the A4113 at Leintwardine.
“Predicted peak:- Leintwardine 2.0m to 2.5m this morning, Thursday 17/10/2024.”
Flood Warning – River Arrow at Eardisland:
“River levels have risen at the Eardisland river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.
“Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected today, 17/10/24.
“We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in and around Eardisland.”

A number of bus services are cancelled in Herefordshire this morning due to flooding on the roads.

Peterchurch Primary School has announced that it will be closed for the rest of the week following flooding on Wednesday morning.
An email sent to parents on Wednesday afternoon said:
“Thank you to everyone for your support and understanding with the school closure this morning.
“All staff and pupils have now got home safely.
“Unfortunately, due to the intense rainfall and substantial amount of water flowing from the fields into school, parts of our school building has flooded.
“On advice from the Local Authority and after surveying the damage, we will be closed for the next 2 days in order to keep pupils and staff safe and to make repairs to the affected areas.
“We will be working tirelessly over the next few days to find a solution to ensure that we can get back to normal as soon as possible, and we will keep you all updated when we can.
“Teachers will upload work for the children to complete via class Dojo, and please message us if you have any concerns or worries.
“A BIG thank you to Peterchurch Fire service and all the staff who stayed and looked after the children, even the bus of Fairfield children who were stuck.
“We are surrounded by a wonderful community and everyone’s help is appreciated.”
