Good progress is being made on the improvements to the roads and pavements in Leominster Town Centre, with work on track to be completed at the end of November.
The enhancements to the High Street, Iron Cross, Victoria Street, Corn Street and Corn Square include attractive surfacing, improved paving, wider pavements and raised tables at the major junctions making it safer and more accessible for pedestrians.
Work on the High Street and Victoria Street is almost finished, although the roads won’t open to traffic until November to ensure continued safe working.
The improvements at Iron Cross and the junction of High Street and Corn Street are soon to get underway. The road will be closed at the Iron Cross South Street and West Street junction from 14 October until 4 November, Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm. Diversions are in place.
The final areas of improvement to be completed will be in Corn Street which is due to reopen mid-November, and Corn Square where work to refurbish the paving and resurface the road and parking area is due to be completed at the end of November.
Visitors to the town can enjoy two hours free parking in Etnam Street Car Park while the improvement work takes place.
Councillor Philip Price, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Transport, said: “Following a slower start than we would have liked, we are pleased that good progress is now being made on the improvements in Leominster Town Centre. The contractor is on track to complete the works by the end of November, subject to any further unexpected issues. The enhancements will help breathe new life into the historic High Street and Corn Square in time for Christmas shopping in December.
“This major investment in Leominster town centre will contribute towards restoring the distinctive character of Leominster, enhancing the town for visitors and retailers and helping to boost trade.”

About Leominster High Street Heritage Action Zone
Leominster was one of a number of high streets in England which received a share of the £95million government fund for heritage regeneration projects, led by Historic England working with local councils and the community. The Leominster scheme was awarded £1.3million Historic England grant funding which is matched by £1.885million funding from Herefordshire Council.
Herefordshire Council and Leominster Town Council have been working in partnership with residents, businesses and community groups to deliver a range of projects, agreed with Historic England, which aim to renew and rejuvenate Leominster’s High Street and Conservation Area.
A further £3million has been provided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to support a cultural programme delivered by the Leominster Cultural Consortium.
This major investment has already transformed buildings with improvements to structure and facades to reflect the original detail restoring local historic character and heritage features.
