The Environment Agency has issued two flood alerts in Herefordshire, with further downpours and flooding expected today.
The flood alerts are on the River Frome and the River Leadon.
Flood Alert – River Frome:
“River levels are rising at the Bishops Frome river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Frome from Bromyard to Hereford.
“Other locations that may be affected include Bishops Frome and Yarkhill.
“Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 to 48 hours.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services and Local Authorities.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
Flood Alert – River Leadon Catchment:
“River levels remain high but are beginning to fall at the Wedderburn Bridge river gauge as a result of localised thunderstorms.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Leadon.
“Locations that may be affected include Ledbury, Much Marcle, Staunton and Tibberton. Water is over the road at Upleadon Court.
“Further rainfall is forecast over the next couple of days.
“We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services and or Local Authorities.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
Flood Alert – Upper Teme:
“River levels remain below flood risk threshold but continue to rise slowly at the Leintwardine and Ludlow river gauges following recent persistently heavy rainfall.
“Consequently, the risk of flooding of roads and farmland remains. Flooding could possibly affect low lying land and roads adjacent the River Teme, River Onny and River Corve and their tributaries.
“Locations that may be affected include Bishops Castle, Church Stretton, Knighton and Ludlow. This flood alert remains in force due to the uncertainty of the location and intensity of rainfall forecast over the next 12 hours.
